DESCRIPTION: France, bronze-front Comtoise clock, 8 day, time and quarter strike with alarm, three bells, weight driven movement with verge escapement, thread suspension with rear-hanging pendulum in an iron post and plate frame, cast brass dial inset with 12 white enamel cartouches showing Roman numerals, Arabic numerals at 5 minute intervals on the outer rim, brass alarm ring with Arabic numerals, two iron hands, pivoted brass winding arbor shutters engraved with "A" and "M", all topped by cast fronton depicting trumpeters flanking a small forward facing Gallic rooster.
CONDITION: White enamel panels with blue lettering are very good. Cast dial and fronton with nice detail. The iron hands have a fair amount of rust on the surface. There is also rust on the iron movement components. Both fans are iron with four blades each. The crown wheel was cut with shallow teeth. Turned lower support for the crown wheel arbor. Small perpendicular feet on the movement uprights. The quarters strike on the two smaller bells, while the hour and alarm sound on the large central bell. The movement will require some mechanical attention. All three bells with small casting defects. The door on the right side is absent. The alarm is located near the center of the movement. No weights or pendulum are included.
